Cowboy Poetry Literary Contest

THE LITERARY PRESS PRESENTS THE 1ST ANNUAL COWBOY POETRY CONTEST

 Cowboy Poetry Contest 2025

A Cowboy Poetry Collection:  “Our Wild Journey” 


CONTEST RULES: NO ENTRY FEE

  1. Poetry contest runs from June 1st 2024 through August 31st 2024.
  2. Plagiarized content will result in disqualification without notification. All published sources must be cited with, at minimum, Author, Title, and Date of Publication.
  3. Poems are to be a maximum of 1000 words, up to 3 entries will be accepted per author. Poems must be submitted using times new roman, 12pt, 1.5 line spacing in pdf form. Submit up to 3 poems via email to americancowboyjournal@email.com or by mail to The Literary Press - PO Box 202-485, 5115 N Dysart Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340. Mail entries must be delivered by the deadline of August 31 2024; in order to be accepted in to contest and go through selection process. Entries will not be returned.
  4. Must be a new or old poem that has NOT been previously published. Any poems that have been submitted to the American Cowboy Journal that have been submitted to other contests are NOT eligible for this contest and future contests.
  5. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age and older. Open to residents of the U.S.A. and Canada.
  6. Poems must be written in American English, no violence beyond explaining certain situations at a minimum, no vulgarity, no explicit stories, these types of poems will be rejected and disqualified. Any entry that contains explicit pornography, sexism, racism, or homophobia, or that denigrates or marginalizes any race, religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation will be automatically disqualified, and the author will be banned from submitting further works to any and all contests performed and managed by the American Cowboy Journal and its affiliates.
  7. Selected stories will be published by The Literary Press on behalf of the American Cowboy Journal in March 2025. Limited to 30 to 100 poems will be selected for publication, depending on length and amount of submissions for consideration of book capacity.
  8. All works will remain the property of the American Cowboy Journal, all poems selected will be published and used on social media platforms including web pages. Author will get full 100% credit in the collective poetry publication.
  9. There will be 3 winners receiving cash prizes; see winner info posted below. Entrants who have been selected for publication will receive a copy of the published book, and recognition and credit for their short story if chosen for the published series. Author Bios, and Photos will be included and published along with your short story if selected.


Winners will be notified via email by January 2025. Any selected short stories will also be notified via email. There will be 3 Winners selected through due process. Entries will be judged on the theme, content and ability to capture the cowboy spirit in your poem.


First Place: $100, plus 5 books

Second Place: $75, plus 4 books

Third Place: $50, plus 3 books

 The Book of Scars: “Our Journey of Survival”

 Do you have a creative non-fiction or fictional story about a scar or scars? We are now accepting short stories at The Literary Press about your scars, and how you survived and moved one, or perhaps still dealing with the trauma or grief that has stricken you because of your scars. Scars are a badge of survival we wear proudly, although some are ashamed to let them be seen, some wear them and show them proudly. Tell us your story of your scars, and share your survival story with the world. See contest rules below. 


We all have scars; some may be visible, some may be unseen. Tell a story of a scar, whether a physical scar or an emotional scar. Submit your best short story today for your chance to get published in mid 2025 - The Book of Scars: “Our Journey of Survival”

Winners will be notified via email by April 30th 2025. Any selected short stories will also be notified via email. There will be 3 Winners selected through due process. Entries will be judged on the setting, plot, characters, conflict, and theme based on scars/your journey of survival.

- First Place: $200, plus 4 books

- Second Place: $100, plus 4 books

- Third Place: $50, plus 4 books
